Mission Statement:
The Aledo ISD Counseling Program provides a comprehensive school counseling program that fosters academic success, college and career readiness, and personal and social development.

Counselor Commitment:
The Aledo ISD counselors will intentionally consult and collaborate with students, parents, staff and community members to advocate on behalf of all students

My name is Shannon Bourland, and I'm thrilled to be joining the Coder family this year. While this is my first year as the counselor at Coder Elementary, it's my 25th year in education. Prior to being a school counselor I was a classroom teacher for 13 years and have taught 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Most recently I was the elementary school counselor at Godley ISD for 11 years. I LOVE working with the littles and upper elementary students!

My passion is helping students develop healthy social and emotional skills so they can be successful in ALL areas of their lives. I'll work closely with teachers, staff and administrators to ensure the mental health of our students is a priority. While I'll be providing character and social emotional learning guidance lessons to all Coder students, I also offer short-term individual and small group counseling sessions for students with identified needs.

Guidance lessons and individual/ small group counseling will focus on topics such as:

  • Motivation to Achieve
  • Character Development
  • Communication Skills
  • Student Leadership
  • Interpersonal/Intrapersonal Effectiveness
  • Self Confidence

Parent communication is always welcome, so reach out if you have any concerns, questions or even suggestions.

Looking forward to a great year!!
