The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the charge and purpose as well as to appoint new members to the 2025-2026 Aledo Growth Committee on Monday night.

This new committee - which is composed of many members of the 2022-2023 Aledo Growth Committee plus new parent, staff and community member representatives to fill vacancies - is only working on future facilities planning, specifically future high school space planning and visioning.

“The input, ideas and approval of our community are invaluable as we continue to grow and look toward additional high school space,” Aledo ISD Board President Forrest Collins said. “We want to maintain what it means to be Growing Greatness in our community while being prudent in our decision making and fiscally responsible with our taxpayer dollars. I am excited to see what the AGC works on and ultimately recommends.”

The district’s growth has slowed since the formation of the 2022-2023 AGC so in an effort to be proactive in long range facilities planning, the 2025-2026 AGC’s scope is limited to planning and design; they will not at this time be developing or recommending a bond package to the Board of Trustees. The 2025-2026 AGC will play a key role in working with the community to shape and refine conceptual designs that may be used in a future bond proposal once student enrollment reaches a level that necessitates additional capacity.

The 2025-2026 AGC will be led by the same community co-chairs who led the 2022-2023 AGC, Dan Reilley and Kelli Stumbo.

“Instead of playing catch up, this is an opportunity to plan for the future of high school experience for students here in Aledo ISD,” Stumbo said. “By engaging with students, teachers and the community now, we can get a more specific plan together and hit the ground running when enrollment numbers dictate the next step.”

Reilley added: “Thanks to the support of our community in the last two Bond elections, we have the land, we have options and we have some time to do this right,” he said. “The right thing to do at this point is to examine our realistic options, to present them to the community and to solicit their input. This could be a significant change and significant investment for our community, so I applaud the Board’s effort to have these conversations now while we have a little breathing room.”

The AGC’s purpose is to represent the Aledo ISD community by:

  • Actively seeking and incorporating community input in order to shape the vision and priorities for future high school facilities;
  • Analyzing data on enrollment, finances, and instructional needs to inform recommendations, and
  • Refining existing long-range facility plans to propose conceptual designs for high school spaces that align with community values and future growth.

The Aledo Growth Committee is charged by the Board of Trustees to:

  • Represent the priorities, expectations and values of the entire community,
  • Consider the needs of all of the district’s students,
  • Use facts and data to make informed decisions,
  • Update the long-range facility master plan focused on addressing the district’s high school capacity needs for future growth, and
  • Lead the development of conceptual designs for future high school facilities, incorporating community input and vision.

In 2022, the Board of Trustees appointed the 2022-2023 Aledo Growth Committee (AGC). This 53-person citizens committee, composed of parents, staff, and community members, served in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees and, at the February 13, 2023 Special Board Meeting, recommended the 2023 Bond Program to the Board of Trustees for their consideration. In May of 2023 the 2023 Bond Program was passed by the community and implemented across the district.

All major construction projects in the 2023 Bond Program are completed, including the new Lynn McKinney Elementary School, the Steve Wood Complex, and renovations to Aledo High School.

The 2025-2026 AGC will meet throughout the fall which will include meetings with community members in feedback sessions. You can follow along with the work of the 2025-2026 AGC at aledoisd.org/agc.
